A waterfall appeared in the original blueprint of the garden at the side of Lake Kirrinen, but it was never built.
The current owner added the waterfall according to the original drawing, and now, summer after summer, the calming murmur of water delights our guests.
The splendid garden is the pride of the manor. It contains diverse collections of traditional flora, and today the garden boasts about one hundred different perennial plant species. The enchanting rose garden features over 350 cultivated roses.
The building of the famed garden of Hahkiala was initiated by the then owner of the Hahkiala manor, Chancellor of Justice, doctor Axel Charpentier.
According to the new garden blueprint, the garden envelopes the main building from all sides. The manor's new main building was erected in 1915 – 1917, and the old farm buildings were moved further, giving way to the spectacular garden. The garden was designed by the landscape architect Paul Olsson. Parts of the garden have been built in French style, which is exemplified by the long main line that goes past the eastern side of the manor all the way to Lake Kirrinen.
In the old days, the garden featured a true cornucopia of plants, among them 5000 perennial plants, and 1800 cultivated roses.
In its current state, too, the gardenis divided into four parts with regard to the main building, one partbeing on each side. The most dominant part is the massive stone wallsurrounding the garden on the side of Lake Kirrinen and its twocharming garden pavillions.
